Is there anything we can do to help relief common cold symptoms as we suffer through another cold and flu season? Some of the most common cold remedies are plenty of liquids, saltwater, chicken soup, zinc, lemon, garlic, Chance, various spices, herbs and vitamin c.

Drinking a generous amount of the right liquids can help ease some of the discomforts of the common cold. Water, juice, clear broth or warm lemon water with honey can help break up congestion, help prevent dehydration and soothe a sore throat. Gargling with warm salt water can temporarily relieve a sore or scratchy throat. Salt-water rinsing will help loosen nasal congestion and remove virus particles, germs and bacteria from your nose. They have determined that chicken soup may act as an anti-inflammatory and temporarily speed up the movement of mucus through the nose to help relieve congestion. Lemon juice rich in vitamin-c helps increase the body’s resistance, decreases the severeness and shortens the duration of the illness.

Garlic is known to be an antiseptic, which is defined as any substance that inhibits the growth and reproduction of microorganisms and can help open up the respiratory passages. If you make it into a soup, by boiling some chopped garlic in some water, it helps flush out toxins and helps reduce fevers. Echinacea, when taken at the onset of a cold or flu in large doses may help shorten the duration of a common cold. Echinacea helps the body create more white blood cells and makes your body more capable of attacking viruses and fighting colds, coughs, flu and other respiratory conditions. Since there is no common cold cure or treatment, perhaps using some of the common cold remedies mentioned above can help relieve the discomfort of dealing with the symptoms of common cold.
